Sport and Physical Education
Sport and Physical Education
At Trafalgar Primary School, we recognise that Sport and Physical Education is essential to every child’s physical, personal, and social development. Our award-winning program provides students with a strong foundation in movement and sport while also nurturing essential life skills that support their success both within and beyond the school environment.
We achieve this by delivering experiences in a diverse range of physical activities, fostering connections with local community clubs, and providing extensive opportunities for students to represent our school at interschool events. These offerings empower students to achieve their best, pursue continuous improvement, and strive for excellence.
Along the way, students learn how to work with others, communicate clearly, lead with empathy, and how to set and achieve meaningful goals. They come to understand that effort leads to improvement, and that growth often involves trying, failing, adjusting, and persisting—experiences that cultivate resilience and build confidence over time. Just as importantly, students learn to form healthy, active habits they can carry into the future.
At Trafalgar Primary, we believe these skills are as fundamental to student development as any other area of the curriculum. They help shape well-rounded, capable young people who are ready to contribute positively to their community.

Curriculum Overview
The Sport and Physical Education program at Trafalgar Primary School is designed to develop physical literacy from Foundation through to Grade 6, fostering students’ growth across physical, social, and emotional domains.
In the early years, the focus is on mastering fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and kicking. These foundational skills are critical to building students’ confidence and competence in a wide range of physical activities and sports. Alongside physical development, students are taught the principles of fair play and good sportsmanship, learning to interact respectfully, resolve minor conflicts constructively, and respond to setbacks with resilience. This holistic approach supports their emotional and social wellbeing as they grow.
As students progress into the upper years, they engage in more formalised sporting experiences. The curriculum expands to include the refinement of technique, the development of game sense, and the application of tactical understanding across a variety of sports. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, adopt new roles, and demonstrate integrity, effort, and teamwork in both casual and competitive settings.
These experiences promote skill progression and lifelong healthy habits, while also reinforcing key values such as perseverance, leadership, and respect. Through active participation, students are well-prepared for success both on the field and in their broader lives.
In addition to our regular program, Trafalgar Primary engages specialised coaches and instructors to deliver:

Swimming Lessons
Dance Lessons
