At Trafalgar Primary School, teachers use the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment Systems to determine students' independent and instructional reading levels by:

• Observing student reading behaviors
• Engaging students in comprehension conversations that go beyond retelling
• Making informed decisions that connect assessment to responsive teaching.

Assessments are made every month and recorded on Compass. The Fountas and Pinnell system uses letter grade system (A-Z) that covers students reading skills from Foundation to Year 8.
